Raoul Cantero, Evelyn Fanneron, Mark Franke (New York), Mark Fuhr, Fan He, Tamara Van Heel, Warren Klinger (New York), Thomas Lauria, Kathryn Mims (Washington, DC), Michael Shepherd, Cheryl Sloane and Jason Zakia
For exceptional pro bono representation of The Faculty of Sweet Briar College, a historic 114-year old women’s college in the State of Virginia. These lawyers assisted the college when it faced the threat of closure. The team secured a settlement for faculty members that requires the College to remain open for the next academic year to afford time to revitalize the institution, and secures severance for affected employees.”

More than 100 alumnae and prospective students visited the event

Report from the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair:
More than 100 alumnae and prospective students from the region attended the show after receiving an invitation from Wayne W. Grafton, Chairman of the Devon Horse Show.
“Last fall we came here for an event and had a great weekend,” said Phillip Stone, President of Sweet Briar College. “Wayne told us about the Devon Horse Show and Country Fair and asked us if we would be interested in coming here for an event during the show. We knew the reputation of this event so we jumped at it. This is the first of what we hope will be an annual event.”
Grafton also knew the reputation of Sweet Briar College and had followed news of its closing and saving last summer. After hearing of the successful effort to save the school, he wanted to form a partnership.
“The Devon Horse Show is so grateful to be in a partnership with Sweet Briar College,” said Grafton. “After listening to what they have done, they inspired me to move forward with all of the improvements here. They are the stars.”
In its first year back, Sweet Briar College won the conference riding championship, continuing a reputation of having a superior riding program that the college has long enjoyed. “For generations, our students have been winning equestrian titles across America, and more than one third of our students ride,” said Mary Pope Hutson, Vice President of Alumni Relations and Development. “We are really fortunate to be here at Devon to launch a partnership with them.”
