Dear Sweet Briar Alumnae,
Thank you for helping us collectively reach the first milestone in our fundraising goals for Sweet Briar College! We are pleased to provide you with your decade’s final fiscal year end participation rates. Participation in annual giving is a key indicator to potential corporate and foundation donors as well as to college ranking agencies. Your care and contributions are vital to those efforts and we are so grateful for your support.
And the winners are…
We are pleased to confirm the Class of 1966 finished out the year with the largest amount of annual giving of all the Reunion classes and is the recipient of the Nancy Dowd Burton Award with a total of $1,271,291 in unrestricted gifts and the Centennial Award with a total of $1,902,854 in giving to all funds.  Remarkably, they increased their participation rate from June 1 to June 30 by 15.8%, going from 28.8% to 44.6%. However, the Class of 1968 had the largest increase during that period with a jump of 16.7%. We are so grateful to both of these classes, whose dedication personifies the rallying spirit our alumnae demonstrated in this class challenge.
Equally remarkable are the efforts of three other classes, all of whom are non-Reunion classes who made unrestricted gifts totaling more than $1 million. These three classes’ participation, along with the tremendous participation from all classes in fiscal year 2016, demonstrate that the paradigm of giving is shifting to meet Sweet Briar’s financial needs.
Congratulations to the following classes on these tremendous accomplishments:
1960 with gifts totaling $1,432,338 (with the highest non-Reunion gift),
1972 with gifts totaling $1,362,464, and
        1975 with gifts totaling $1,398,440.

Most importantly, every gift was a significant gift as we witnessed our participation levels rise and our overall fundraising dollars exceeded our fiscal year requirements.   When we called on you to help the College meet its goals, you rose to the challenge! We are so grateful for and overwhelmed by the power of our alumnae and other s

upporters.

Well done to all classes in the 1980s! You inspire us with all that you have accomplished. Your class officers and fund agents will be sharing your dollars raised. To re-invigorate you at the beginning of this fiscal year, we issue this challenge: exceed your participation from last year, and take us to the next goal. We know that you will help get us there. You will pave Sweet Briar’s path to sustainability.
Please click here to view a special message of thanks from President Phil Stone here in case you missed it on June 30. You can also read an article about the fundraising accomplishments of the 2016 fiscal year here. Mary Pope and I, along with the entire Office of Alumnae Relations and Development, echo President Stone’s words of gratitude. We could not have reached our fundraising goals this year without you, and for that we are forever grateful.
Gratefully,
Kathy “kp” Papadimitriou ’84

VIXENS HELPING VIXENS

Temma Clark -Braverman
Hey everybody. My father died unexpectedly a week ago. A friend of my sister’s set up a gofund me for my mother for my dad’s final expenses etc. If you would be willing to donate or share or anything, I would really appreciate it. Thanks
https://www.gofundme.com/mikeyclarkbraverma

Please help fellow Vixen Cassandra Thomas Sheehan who has developed a mass in her cranium and will have to undergo an open craniotomy for a biopsy.  Please go to https://www.gofundme.com/2b7kjtjc , read her story and help if you can. Thank you!
UPDATE:
From her roommate Katie Clarkson Robertson – This just in from cassie’s Mom “Just got home The surgery went well. It took 4hour instead of 5 and she.looked very good when we left.” HOORAY!  Please remember that she is not out of the woods, yet, and the bills are still coming in.

Florence Barnick is asking for help to find a babysitter for her brother’s daughters in the Cincinnati, OH area – Vixen sisters, anyone in Cincinnati who wants to do some short-term babysitting? Know anyone? My brother has just moved there (Monday) with 2 future Vixens (ages 4 & 1) and could use some help as he gets the house settled as his wife has already started work at Children’s Hospital. Gaslight Clifton neighborhood. Thanks!  You send her a private message on Facebook or send a message right here to Vixen Watch and I will forward the message.

AIMEE E. PEACEMAKER NEEDS OUR HELP
Hello! I teach Kindergarten in a rural county in Virginia. My school is a Title 1 school, which means we receive federal funding because of our high poverty rate.
Despite the federal funding, I typically spend approximately $1,400 a year on my classroom. I don’t get reimbursed for this. Federal funding has lots of restrictions. In other words, I can’t always get what my Kindergartners actually need.
So, I’ve decided to create a Donors Choose project to help get “alternative seating” options for my Kinders.
Please consider donating…. Every little bit helps! The project must be fully funded by October 17, or it’s not funded at all.
Sorry for the shameless plea, but it’s not actually for me– it’s for my future Kindergartners!!!
Thank you, Sweet Briar sisters!!! 💗💚💗💚

VIXENS HELPING VIXENS

Please help fellow Vixen Cassandra Thomas Sheehan who has developed a mass in her cranium and will have to undergo an open craniotomy for a biopsy.  Please go to https://www.gofundme.com/2b7kjtjc , read her story and help if you can. Thank you!

SUBMITTED BY MEMBERS OF THE SWEET BRIAR COMMUNITY

Submitted by Kathy ‘KP’ Papadimitriou ’84
An email from Cathy Cash Mays ’84

Farewell...
Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities
After a busy, fun-filled week of meetings and group activities, the staff and participants of VCIC left campus all smiles, having completed another annual conference and vowing to return again next year. We will look forward to their return!
Who’s on Campus This Week….
UVa’s Young Writers Workshop
June 19-July 24 (two sessions)
The Session 1 group, with a final count of 97 creative and energetic young women and men, will complete activities at week’s end. The YWW campers have been quite busy with classroom sessions, open mic gatherings, readings and lots more. This lively group also found time for various social activities, including sub and pizza parties and a Friday night social. They will close their session with a ceremony on Friday morning.
BLUR
June 19-July 11
What a busy first week for our young BLUR guests! Whether drawing cartoons, painting and sculpting in the Art Barn or traveling across the highway to the VCCA studios to meet with visiting poets, playwrights and visual artists, these young people have experienced art at its finest. To complete the week, the group attended a performance and Q&A by Endstation Theatre Company in Lynchburg.
Expectations Volleyball
June 26-July 2

A BIG welcome to Expectations Volleyball! We are delighted to have them return to Sweet Briar. Session 1, “High Expectations,” runs June 26-28 and brings to campus rising eighth-graders with a minimum of three seasons of competitive volleyball. Session 2, “College Expectations,“ follows right behind from June 30-July 2. The second session is for rising freshmen with five seasons of competitive ball. These ladies know their game and will spend their time in the Fitness and Athletics Center. They are staying at the Elston Inn.

VIXENS HELPING VIXENS
